So, since this will be the IAWA Worlds, we will be following IAWA rules and allow a pressout on Continental C&J?

Why would it be called a continental clean and jerk if a pressout is allowed ?

IF it is contested in the IAWA worlds, I would assume the IAWA rules would be the ones used.

Yes, we will use the IAWA(UK) rules instead of the USAWA rules as has been done in the past at the World Meet.

The similar USAWA lift is the continental to chest and jerk. The jerk must be a legal jerk.

The IAWA(UK) lift is called the continental clean and jerk – meaning BOTH the clean and the jerk can be done with continental rules – meaning anything goes. And YES – you can pressout, strongman press it, etc..

It makes no sense to me to call a lift a continental clean – and even less sense calling something a continental jerk. But this lift was performed at the 2011 Worlds in Australia and that is the way it was performed and officiated.

Al, I agree with your thoughts. Continental to Chest and Jerk would better or just Continental Jerk. I wanted to bring this up now so it will give everyone a ‘heads up’ long before the meet and their training can take advantage of this knowledge!!

Yes,the IAWA name for the lift is nonsensical. It would be better for them to call the lift the “Continental and get it overhead somehow”. LOL
