Now!! I’ve been biting my tongue on this long enough. The Atomic Athletic ads are unwelcome and unnecessary. I don’t know if these are paid ads. This recent one has to be the most blatant.

            James,
Roger isn’t just some guy taking advantage of the site. He is hosting the Heavy Lift Nationals this year, and I believe they’ve hosted other Usawa events in the past. As for todays, I actually loaded the conversion to my ipad, I struggle with those!

I’m glad you got something useful. It’s good Roger supports the USAWA. I do not believe the home page is the place for ads. Running a meet in the USAWA does NOT entitle you to be running ads on the home page.
What if someone’s first time visiting the USAWA website was today. Would they have been turned off by,”Hey, buy my stuff!”? Maybe…maybe not. Meet announcements, USAWA history, tech articles on the lifts, contest results, etc. bring it on.

I kinda thought the same thing about today’s story. Now, having read weightlifting mags going WAAAY back, they were all basically ads for the equipment being sold by the publisher. That being said, there was a lot of useful information in there. It was up to the reader to read and decide. So, I don’t have a problem the articles promoting something he’s selling. I would “like” to see useful information in the article which this last one did not. For example, if he would have written a story with information about the conversion, how to calculate it, and also an easy way I learned for figuring it in your head was take the KGX2+10% (ex. 100kg X 2 = 200 + 10% of 200 or 20 = 220lbs).

So, that’s my opinion, allow this stuff, but take the time to write a little something on the subject.

I have enjoyed Rogers’ stories so I hope he keeps it coming.

I have taken time to decide how to respond to James’ comments. I do understand how he feels about this – as this website should not be a “commercial website” like most other websites are. This website should be about providing new unbiased information to help a lifter with all round weightlifting, not “clouded” with sales pitches and such. That is how we stand apart from other websites that run blogs that only pertain to helping with a sale.

Now onto my dilemma. I hardly ever turn down a submitted story. My goal is to provide a new story everyday, thus the USAWA Daily News. I don’t always succeed with this, and at times feel like I’m letting you guys down. My priorities are this: 1. meet announcements/meet results, 2. technical or historical pieces that pertain to the USAWA, and 3. “fluff pieces” that are interesting stories, but might not pertain directly to the USAWA, and finally 4. any thing that will fill the page for the day.

I have really appreciated Rogers stories as they have contained some very useful information, and I hope he keeps submitting them. Also, I’m going to take this opportunity to make another CALL from me to everyone who reads this to please send me YOUR STORIES for the website. Al

make an effort to contribute. I will make a concentrated effort to send in some material. I certainly appreciate the effort Al puts into the ‘dailies’.
