I am hosting a record day at the Jackson Weightlifting Club Training Hall (my basement gym) on Oct 19. This will be after my Highland Games so I’m looking to start around 4pm and we’ll go until no one is left!
1. Please let me know if you plan to attend and what lifts you will attempt. My email is thomvanvleck1@gmail.com if you want to ask if I have the equipment you need. If not you are welcome to bring your own. I do have a lot!
2. There is no entry for this. Memberships will be taken if you aren’t up to date.
3. I will have awards. A wooden mallet (Thor’s Hammer) for all entrants that set a record in Thor’s hammer and a small anvil for other entrants that break a record. A hail and hardy handshake for those that try and fail.
4. If weather permits I’ll have a bonfire/campfire after dark so bring a lawn chair.
5. More updates to follow.Thom Van Vleck

Thom, I wish I could make it to your record day! I’m already scheduled to do this year’s massive worldwide King Kong grip contest at Chad Gustin’s training hall on the same date. Small world because I first met him at your 2010 Kirksville Highland Games contest. Since then we’ve become friends and for the last 5 years we’ve done the KK grip contests either at his training hall or in 2019 at a friend’s house a significant distance into Missouri.

Always fun to see what other strength sports folks compete in:
Thom, I was looking at the NASGA database and those are some impressive numbers. 33 foot sheaf toss is amazing. I know Chad competes in Highland Games and there are probably several others who compete in All-Round Weightlifting and Highland Games.
Ben, Good to hear that you will be doing King Kong. I am planning on competing as well. I have not had many grip specific training sessions, but I figure I still have a little over a month to get ready.
My big accomplishment for the year outside of All-Round was finishing a local short course triathlon with 750 meter open water swim, 10 mile bike and 5K run. My next big event general fitness event will by Hyrox.
Hope folks add to this thread to discuss there All-Round Weightlifting competition plans and other athletic endeavors.
