Grip Championships

MEET ANNOUNCEMENT
2015 USAWA GRIP CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2015 USAWA Grip Championships will again be held the second Saturday of February, on February 14th.  I know this is Valentine’s Day, and the Grip Champs has been held on this day before as well.  Instead of using this as an excuse not to attend, I recommend that you tell your sweetie that you have planned a special weekend getaway for her, and then bring her to the Dino Gym for the meet.

As usual I picked a very challenging group of grip lifts from our list of official USAWA lifts.   All Championship events must contest official lifts of the organization, and not exhibition lifts.  One of the exciting lifts in this meet that has not been contested before in a Grip Champs is the Bearhug.  There are minimal records in it, so there will be several new USAWA records established.

The following day there will be a record day at the Dino Gym.  If anyone wants to go after a record of two after the meet that will be ok.  However, usually once the meet is over everyone is ready to go to town and  eat a celebration meal, as is the tradition following meets at the Dino Gym.  So unless you want to get several glares from holding up the food consumption from several hungry lifters, make your record lifts quickly.

Meet Director: Al Myers

Meet Date: Saturday, February 14th, 2015    10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Location: Dino Gym, 1126 Eden Road, Abilene, KS 67410

Sanction: United States All-Round Weightlifting Association. Individual USAWA membership is required of each participant.

Weigh-ins: 9:00-10:00 AM the day of the meet. Lifting will start at 10:00 AM

Divisions: Juniors, Women, Masters, and Open

Awards: Championship Certificates

Entry Fee: None – but please notify me ahead of time if you plan to enter

Lifts:

Finger Lift – Index, Right
Finger Lift – Index, Left
Deadlift – Fulton Bar, One Arm
Bearhug
Vertical Bar Deadlift – 2 Bars, 2″

Rules: USAWA General Rules and Scoring Apply.

This will be a DRUG TESTED event.

Registration: No Entry Form, but please contact me ahead of the meet if you plan to attend at amyers@usawa.com

Colorado Record Breaker

Dino Gym Challenge

DINO GYM CHALLENGE PRESENTS THE –

“Herman Goerner Deadlift Medley”

Every year I like to change up the theme of the Dino Gym Challenge to give it variety.   I have honored several of my favorite Old Time Strongmen in the past by hosting meets in their memory, ie Arthur Saxon and Warren Lincoln Travis.   This year the meet will honor the great German lifter and strongman – Herman Goerner.   He was an outstanding deadlifter in many pulling disciplines, so this meet will feature an entire meet of various deadlift movements.  It ought to provide for a very challenging meet.

I encourage prior meet registration, or at least let me know if you plan to attend ahead of time so I can prepare accordingly.  The meet will be held in the Dino Gym on the main platform.

Postal Championships

MEET ANNOUNCEMENT
2014 USAWA POSTAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The big finale of our USAWA Postal Meet Series is upon us!

The Postal Championships will be held during the full month of December, with the entry deadline the last day of the month.  USAWA Postal Meet Director Denny Habecker has picked a good selection of lifts to test everyone’s strength in our Championship event.  Also – I want to remind everyone that this meet “counts double” in generating points toward the yearly postal series point totals.  Let’s have another good turnout of participation!

The lifts:

Deadlift – One Arm, Dumbbell
Pullover and Push

Denny has let me know that SIX lifters have taken part in all three of the previous quarterly postal meets this year.  Denny commented, “I thought some people might be interested to see the cumulative point totals of the people who have done all the postals so far this year. So here they are.”

This meet will be the same as Art’s, a limit of 5 lifts for records.  This meet will have no entry form to fill out or need an entry.  Just an email or a call to me. The date of the meet is 11/29/2014 at the Norwood Recreational Center, 165 Nahatan St., Norwood.
