It was brought to my attention that the 2025 Shaw Classic in Loveland, Colorado is the same weekend as the currently sanctioned Colorado OTSM Classic in Lakewood, Colorado. Being as how it is only an hour away, there may be the possibility of hosting the meet in the expo hall. There is the obvious hurdle of cost. Without sponsorship or partial waiving of fees, a 10×20 space at the expo would cost $1500.
Aside from this cost, would athletes be interested in competing? Could we allow participation from spectators on the expo floor? What lifts would be appropriate for a space that size? What could be set up and torn down reasonably? What promotional materials should be on hand?
In my head, I was picturing a 32-inch monitor showing heavy lifts, Bavarian deadlift and others on a loop. A table would include copies of the rule book and flyers for USAWA. Pre-registered athletes could compete in 2 lifts on Friday. Saturday and Sunday we could schedule 30-minute windows for record lifts and have that schedule available, so spectators know to come back to see a massive teeth lift or bent press. Finally, spectators from the floor could attempt loadable inch dumbbell or axle dumbbell and see how they stack up against current USAWA records or keep a white board of top lifts.
Just trying to spark some discussion. I could not pull this off without at least half a dozen current USAWA members coming out and being willing to pay there own way for 3 nights in Colorado along with spotting, loading, answering questions, etc.
Personally, the thought of being in an expo hall for three days is terrifying and overwhelming and I would rather just do my own thing in my garage. That being said, I know there was some discussion about getting All-Round Weightlifting in the Arnold and this would be a good tester as it currently a smaller event.

I always thought something like that would be good for all-round. Would be good for exposure. Cost is clearly an issue. As far as who would support such a thing, I do not have the answer. When I was young and strong and did not have the same family responsibilities, I would have been all over a setup like this. At this point, such pomp and circumstance would have no interest to me as a competitor. Does not mean it would not be good for the org, though. I think things that would showcase us as an org would be those that highlight what makes us different. Bent press, a heavy lift, one arm lifts, hack lift, steinborn, etc. Just another bench press variation or deadlift variation would make us look like just like any old powerlifting org, thus uninteresting.

In 2008 the Nationals were held at the Ohio State Fair. Although a very different time and place it potentially offered increased visibility for the USAWA. I was not there, but some of those involved are still involved. I wonder if they have comments that might be helpful.

I think something like that would give us good exposure, but the cost is the limiting factor. Besides the $1500, each lifter would have the expense of probably 4 nights in a hotel plus food expenses.
