It is great to see all of the new meet venues coming up. Between Heavy Garage Gym Record Day and Jackson Weightlifting Club Record Day, USAWA has really filled out the fall calendar. I loved reading the meet recap from the True North Open. That is an inaugural event done right.

While it is great to see all the new venues, do we really need three different sanctioned sanctioned record days on the same day (October 12th)? I think it would be great if only one club sanctioned, compiled results and allowed hybrid entries. The only downside I noticed is that it would be harder for clubs to accumulate points towards club of the year.

Call me old school, but even though it is allowed, I really have no interest in lifting in other people’s meets remotely.

Sanjiv, Frank called me before filing his meet sanction since he wanted to hold it on the same date as mine. I told him I was fine with him having his own on that date, if we wanted. We had both also considered October 5, but that was the same day as the World Championships. (Meanwhile, Bill’s and mine crossed in the mail, I think, since he filed his on paper. If I’m remembering the timeline right, he sent it before I listed mine, but I received it afterward.)

I think it’s ok to have record days on the same day in different locations. People can lift in whichever is closest to them, and ultimately it’s the same result as if they were satellite locations of the same meet. If they were regular meets (instead of record days) I might feel differently.

Good points. It seems like the major events Grip Championships, Heavy Lift Championship, National Championship, OTSM Championship are pretty well spaced out. Some other events like True North and Hackendinnie could certainly become premier events on the calendar as well.

Given our current membership there is probably not much risk of someone thinking they are setting a record only to have it bested the same day at another venue. More events in more regions should certainly keep current members engaged and attract new members.
