Last I heard he was going off the grid. But that was not from a reliable source

I remember him telling a story about going off the grid for 6 months….. sometimes I feel like doing that!

I wondered the same thing. By the by, if I ever go off the grid it will be for good. A cabin in the woods with the wife, kids, a single shot rifle and a one eyed dog.

Thom, I heard through the crape vine that you had inquired about me. Although I am touched that you care, I’m rather incensed about you referring to me as “Wags.”

I suppose you slept through the portion of Marine Corp indoctrination in which you would’ve learned that a Marine—of any rank—is to refer to an Army paratrooper—of any rank—as Sir. But do not worry, the next time I see you I shall drop you and as you knock out push-ups I’ll provide you with remedial training regarding how to respectfully address a superior soldier. Then again, I probably can’t cover that in the time it’ll take you to perform the two push-ups you have the stamina for, so I’ll have to think of something else…

are like a pilot who goes onto a ship without rudder or
compass and never has any certainty to where he is going.

                            1. I am a Marine, not a “soldier”. There’s a difference.
                            2. In my boot camp there was all kinds of name calling and here were a few I was called in boot camp AND AFTER. IT WAS A TERM of endearment. I was taught “Sir” was reserved for officers and if you called any enlisted Marine “Sir” that would jump your ass and say “I work for a living”.
                            a. Van F@ck (and just about any other cuss word with a “van” in front of it).
                            b. Fat Unsat (short for unsatifactory) PIG.
                            c. Hillbilly (my middle name is Earl…and truth be told I come from a long line of hillbilies).
                            d. Rectum Face (probably something to do with my smart ass comments and talking crap.
                            e. ….and a bunch of others that I can’t.
If you were offended by being called “Wags” it was NOT intended to offend but meant as a term of endearment. If you were offended by it I won’t call that again but JESUS CHRIST if you were offended I will remind you of “Francis” on Stripes…don’t be that guy.
                            3. We were taught in the Marines to never leave anyone behind. I seriously got a little concerned. Next time I won’t be as a courtesy.
                            4. As for the drop kick. I’ll be honest, I really think that you could beat the living crap out of me even though I’m twice your size. You are completely right about the push ups….well…maybe I could do 5… but still, you’d clobber me. But in the Marines we were taught to shoot and if do that right you never have to worry about getting drop kicked. I won’t mention my shooting skills, you are already aware of them.
                            5. Finally….I sure as he!! hope you are just ribbing me. But I will say this, if you don choose to kick my ass the next time we meet do your worst because I’ll never address you as “Sir” because I was trained that “Sir” was reserved for those that don’t work for a living and I indeed know you have worked harder than most.
                            6. Let’s have a beer soon! I’ll be at Al’s in a couple weeks and I’ll buy you one!

Oh Earl, of course what I wrote was in jest. Aren’t we gettin’ crotchity (sp?) in our old age. Or did Thor’s hammer fall on your head during your last training session and damage your frontal cortex?

But I suppose I’d be rather ticked off, too, if I had to admit in a public forum that I wasn’t a soldier. Regardless, I still love ya and I’d never even contemplate drop kicking you; that was a soldier’s reference to dropping for push-ups. But since you weren’t a soldier, I suppose I understand why you misunderstood.

And speaking of push-ups and boot camp (what soldiers call basic training)…

Our Drill took us to this little commissary that was near-by and we’re waiting in line to get something and this Drill from another company walks by, sees me and goes, “You look like a Marine, drop and give me 20!”

So I dropped, knocked out 20 push-ups, jumped up to attention and go something like: “Drill Sergeant, I don’t appreciate the insult of being called a Marine, so I’m gonna give you 20 more.” I dropped again and knocked out 20 more push-ups while the guys from my company were doing all they could to not laugh their assess off at that Drill. Strangely, and unexpectedly, that Drill didn’t know what to say or do and just walked off while I was the hero of the day.

Till we meet again, with love,

                              Sir Wags

P.S. We had that same saying about Sir and working for a living. I never understood that one, why it was a negative to have a higher education and knowing more.

This forum has declined in your absence! Most days have been downright boring here. Glad to see you and Thom back at it – I’ll try really hard this week to think of something I can argue with you about!!!! In the meantime if you need info on big T about things he’s sensitive about I can give you some ideas. haha

Al, thanks for the offer, but it appears as though Thom is in a vulnerable and sensitive state, perhaps due to male menopause, so perhaps it is best that we provide him with caring, understanding, and love in his time of fragility.

And Al, arguing? Us? NEVER! I just view it as an opportunity to enlighten many of the readers who train akin to a guy participating in the 2015 Daytona 500 with NASCAR’s great Buck Baker’s 1957 car sans ANY of the automotive engineering advancements. Of course he’s gonna be left in the dust. Nobody in NASCAR would even contemplate doing something so silly, which makes me sometimes wonder about so many weight trainers.

Yeah, yeah, I know Thom, you’re gonna say that I just have good genetics. But Thom, science has been able to determine that much of it is actually the other way around; how you train has a direct impact on your genes and what signals they then send through your body thus determining your gains and thus also making it more important than ever to train based on the latest science and not something from 1954, or 2010, or something from the 19th century.

                                      Over to you, Al…hehehe
