RJ,let me know how it goes. The version I did, trying to get Quads touching the floor, puts quite a stretch on the upper Hams and Adductors. I feel this is a more direct leg exercise than Squatting.
Later on, I realized that at 146lbs I could’ve done a Pullover & Push to get weight into position. I would recommend trying it. It is a very interesting move. Probably easier with work boots on.
Timo, you are so friggin’ awesome you make my lifting look like a child’s! I’ve got to come to Finland sometime and train grip with you sickos.
Thanks to all. I wish I could compete once a month! The lifting is fun but does NOT overshadow the storytelling, bs-ing and info sharing. Think about it, thanks to Denny H., I got to see ACTUAL pictures of the 1970 Weightlifting Worlds. I’m not talking pictures from a magazine that ‘covered’ the Worlds. I’m sitting on a couch with a guy whose Barbell Club hosted the Worlds and these are his pictures!!
I got tips from Dennis M. on Bent Press technique. He was Bent Pressing BEFORE WWII ENDED!!
Powerlifting and Olympic Lifting has changed so much. A powerlifter of today with suits adding 250+lbs to a lift, has no need to consult the past masters. Dropping the Press, allowing the thigh brush and everyone today using a Squat style puts quite a bit of distance between the Olympic lifters of now and then. Both sports have had problems with steroids since the 60’s. Just that alone will separate the training of before and after steroids came to be.
I’m honored to be lifter of the month. I’m most honored to be part of an organization that is picking up the dropped ball of getting stronger. We were Crossfit before there WAS a Crossfit. I think of Crossfit as All-Round Lifting Aerobics. The info we have will work with any regular everyday person who wants to get stronger. We’ve got lifts as easy to set up as a Weaver Lift all the way to a Carter Lift or Harness Lift. I think if we can get enough younger grass roots interest going, folks will be beating a path to our door. There really isn’t anything else as legit as what we do.I don’t know Denny, but your 1000lb Hip Lift was MOST impressive!!
Yeah, Al pretty much spanked us like redheaded step children!!
Thanks to all of you that make up this site AND the USAWA. I am honored here if not elsewhere.
We’ll see
KC, when I’m done, he’ll sleep like a baby alright….he’ll be crying all night!! Just so everybody knows, this is in good fun. I, without a shred of doubt, respect Joe Garcia’s accomplishments.
Thanks Tom, I was at that meet in the video(2011 USAWA Heavy Lift Nats in York,Pa) Joe showed me that technique and this time I tried one recommended to me by Frank Ciavattone. I am still getting the hang of this and will most likely go back to the higher position. I want to lift some Hand & Thigh poundages that’ll give Joe some sleepless nights.
Thanks KC! I hope you got to see the right video. Somehow the other one lost a bunch of info so here’s the new versionhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN68ZK0r12Y&feature=player_detailpage
Not a problem Dave. Seems wrong to keep my mags in ‘lockdown’ Used to own a one of a kind 1961 Dodge Power Wagon Crew Cab pickup. Man, I drove that throughout the year. No trophy cases in my house!!
Thanks Dave, and thanks to you and Pete Vuono for loading ALL DAMN DAY!! It was great to meet you and talk some ‘shop’.
KC: some ridiculous weights got lifted in ALL age groupsApril 14, 2013 at 4:45 pm in reply to: Something for the Legend and hook grip progress afterwards #21766Timo is da man!! Seeing you can do double bodyweight Pullups=Strong Lats. How much would you say strong Lats helps your Deadlifting one and two handed?
Thom, you thinking of this?
