Not sure about Kaz, but he is not listed on the Gordon Dinnie website. I’m happy to report that we can add two more USAWA members to the list! Al and I both lifted the stones. Mark Haydock and I both completed 25 reps for a new record for reps in a single day! I want to thank Steve Angel, another lifetime drug free lifter, for setting the mark here. I finally met Steve this weekend and really enjoyed getting to spend some time with him. Steve is an outstanding ambassador of the strength sports! A true champion on and off the platform, I can’t express how much I enjoyed visiting with him. Even when I accidentally dumped a full beer in his lap! I felt unbelievably embarrassed by that, but Steve took it in stride and did his best to try and make it alright. I still feel horrible about that!
Al truly gutted his lift! He did not intend to try, just a couple of months after shoulder surgery! He didn’t bring a belt to lifting shoes. Of course he got caught up and gave it shot. He set hook too deep on his first try and ripped a huge chunk from his right hand. I figured his day was done. He wrapped some tape on it and stood by with blood lotterally dripping from his hand. It was bubbling out of the wound, I’m not exaggerating! He asked what I thought, I said go for it, but honestly didn’t see how he could do it. He stepped up, set it in and lifted both unassisted! It was a tremendous effort!
I agree that it should be kept seperate.
It has been glossed over, Steve put it in an article but in Al fashion, he hasn’t made a big deal about it. Steve has done an outstanding job for 12 years, I don’t think anyone would be better suited to take the baton than Al. I know Al is someone, like Steve, that will attend Worlds and the Gold Cup each year. Congratulations Al! I know you’ll do a great job for the IAWA!
Thom did an outstanding job both days, I had a really good time! It was great to get to spend some time with Thom and Dave after the Highland Games on Sat, wish we all lived closer! Thom, when are we going to get that new grill? I’m sold!
I’ve rarely seen Al at a loss for words, but he didn’t have much to say when your buddy started in him! LOL, it was great!
That made me laugh out loud, hahaha
At first I thought the was going to be the story of the guy with a wooden eye that asked the peg legged girl to dance. She didn’t get a lot of attention and exclaimed “woud I, Would I”! To which he replied peg leg peg leg!
Eric, to me that is the biggest issue. It’s not the knee wraps most people use, it’s what is out there or what is possible to do with them if they’re allowed. I also really appreciated all the research Dan did for that article. Very well written.
Jesse, I agree that is pretty insane and I don’t really know the reason. I think it was just presented that way and went through.
Always been the problem with bill. You never are really sure where he stands. Hahahahaha
Thanks ET, I think this is going to be a fun battle!
As far as the two man neck, it was brutal! If you’re off a bit, you get pressure from the side as it dumps on you. Honestly, I have little interest in trying a max attempt on that lift!
I make it up to him in other ways…
hahahahahahaha!
I did do the write up about his winning the Athlete of the year! That should count for something!
I’ll take the blame for that one Eric. I asked Al about it and he said he didn’t feel comfortable writing it about himself. I was going to do it, but with vacation, then right into a work trip, I didn’t get it done. I feel really bad about it, as much as he puts into this for all of us and as much as he does for this organization I should have made it more of a priority. I let time get away from and I apologize to Al. He surely deserves the recognition
It was a lot of fun, Jesse. I don’t think it was easy this year!
Just logged on for the day. What did I miss? Sounds like a photo shop job to me
It was very impressive Ben. They all came off the ground very easily. I should have doubled checked that record for you, I had the dang list!
