Really good article Thom
Thanks alot guys! I was surprised and very honored to see this, I appreciate the kind words. I would say the best lifting and throwing of the past 5 years anyway! LOL.
Have a great one Laverne
Not sure about that! Thanks tho Eric, Been focusing on the front squat
I know he’ll be home tomorrow, cause we’re doing the Andy Goddard postal!
Hahaha
I can’t seem to figure out how to post the picture I have from York of the Travis Db. I know Al is fishing and he has some as well, maybe he can get it posted. At any rate, they look very similar but unless the one in York is modified I do see some differences between it and the Goode DB.
Anyone know how to post pics??
Al and I are doing it this weekend. Hope we get a lot of people involved, this is a great thing Steve is doing. Good luck!
Very well written, Al
Great!
I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Steve over the years. I’m not surprised he’s written history books. The depth of Steve’s knowledge is quite impressive. Well written article Al, thank you.
Thom, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little
Blood oath…
Found this
In the span of 11 months, from June 1939 to May 1940, three men were awarded the title of Mr. America, and each has defenders who claim he was the “first” AATJ Mr. A. The trail to finding out who really got there first is not as easily trod as simply examining the chronology of events, which occurred as follows: On June 10, 1939, Bert Goodrich won. On July 4, 1939, Roland Essmaker won. On May 25, 1940, John Grimek won.
By sifting through the records, we can determine the rightful titleholder and discount the others. And therein lies the tale. The fact is, Goodrich’s victory took place at an event that was called America’s Best Physique Contest, and it was held in Amsterdam, New York. The important point here is that this contest allowed professionals to compete against amateurs. Thus, the AAU, which stands for Amateur Athletic Union, did not stage the contest nor did it sanction it. This negates the claim that Bert was the first AAU Mr. America.
There was some outstanding lifting while I was there for sure! I have to say the things Wilbur did were absolutely amazing! It was another great weekend at the Dino Gym! One of the best times I’ve had in quite some time.
