I would have to agree, as you said there are a lot of lifts that are not commonly done in your “Average gyms” One reason being lack of equipment. The second, and in my opinion more common reason is that the lift is just plain hard. That’s a stupid lift often translates into holy moly! That’s a hard lift and I couldn’t do it.
Just a thought, could it be that USAWA is just destined to be a small organization because it is such a unique organization? If you think about it The USAWA is about unique lift, many are very difficult and/or require specialized equipment. When I say special equipment I’m thinking of stuff that most USAWA members would consider Standard fare such as the 2in. or Fulton bar, loadable dumbbells, and, V-bars. Most of this just can’t be found in the average commercial or home. Let’s not even talk about equipment needed for heavy lifts.
I completely guessing here but I would say that the vast majority of the USAWA membership either train at home gym that they have built over the years or they belong to one of the very rare public or semipublic gyms that actually have access to this type of equipment.
I think the average lifter who was to run across the USAWA would find the lifts interesting and may even try a few but I think their interest would soon wane for the reasons mentioned above.
That has to be the most unique continental to belt I’ve ever seen
Your 100% right, it’s one thing to go to an event and move a lot of weight and it is another thing all together to go to an event and move all the weight you can.
Same here. I read all of them, very educational and entertaining.
There is some taper, but it is more pole than tree trunk for sure.
I went with the 16 footer. I still need to do some finishing work on it (Mostly for aesthetics) but it is ready to turn and I’m hoping to get out this weekend and give it a try.
That just looks like a move that has killed more than one person!
Nice job
Nice work – keep lifting big!
Actually Dan, I like reading your posts. It’s cool to know science behind the sport and to get it from someone who is not trying to sell me something.
LoL – Unfortunately, little of my training is optimal. But, I do try to work in what I can when possible.
I’ve been an early morning trainer (5:00 AM) for a long time and I don’t eat until about an hour afterwards. It has more to do with convenience than anything about training. I train in the morning because life gets in the way in the afternoon and I miss way too many sessions when I do. I don’t eat before because I generally don’t have time to fix and eat something before I leave for the gym. I do drink a cup of coffee though.
For me it really is just adapting to the set of circumstances that I’ve been dealt and making thing fit where they can. It is more habit than anything now. But I’m actually very comfortable training on nothing more than a cup of coffee.
The other Dan
Al, I think in a previous life you have something to do with the inquisition.
I dropped my postal in the mail this morning. Did I mention I hate the Jefferson! LoL – Fat legs leave little room for a bar!
It was a great time. But then again I can’t imagine how you could not have a great time at Al’s.
Dan thanks for posting the videos!
