Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to ALL!
I’m just getting ready to leave for Scotland!
I know Dennis Mitchell and James Fuller are also registered.
I’ll give a full update as soon as I can.
who do you plan to test?
what are you saying?
Tom,
I’ll be looking forward to your rule proposal on the seated one and two handed clean!
AlTom,
You are a great inspiration to me. I enjoy hearing about your training and the obstacles you overcome in your sessions. Keep up the great work!
I do want to get to Atlanta sometime. If I can make this work lets start thinking about a record day at your place in the future.
As for seated lifts – there is a lack of them. In discussing wheelchair lifts with Paul, I think instead of adding “wheelchair only” lifts it would be better to have more seated lifts that all can do.
I’m a big fan of Hermann Goerner, and if I recall from his book he did a seated clean of 220#! That would be a perfect all round lift!! (hint hint send me a rule with proposal so I can pass it along to the EB).
One place to see that is on my list is the Paul Anderson Youth Home. That would have to be on the travel plans to Atlanta, and you could be my expert guide!! I’m not sure if your writings on Paul are on the internet or not, but if not, I would love to be able to share them on the USAWA website.
Take care and keep lifting!!! Al
Yes, so far good news on Denny!
Judy said he is in great spirits after the stent procedure, and feeling much better.
Hopefully we see Denny back on the platform soon!
Welcome back Dan!!
This forum has declined in your absence! Most days have been downright boring here. Glad to see you and Thom back at it – I’ll try really hard this week to think of something I can argue with you about!!!! In the meantime if you need info on big T about things he’s sensitive about I can give you some ideas. haha
well THAT is a good story idea….I’ll try to find the time to get it done!
The Bearhug is a very interesting lift, and we’ve done it a couple times in my record days. Agree James – 2″ plates using a VB seems like a better setup, but that’s not the way the rule was originally written. I’ll see if it can be changed to allow this in the future as that would help with lifters being set up to do it. Al PS and Ben, you would love this lift as it requires quite a bit of wrist/forearm strength.
RJ, I agree with what you said, but it sure puts a USAWA lifter at a huge disadvantage in trying to go after a IAWA WR set with a small ring.
Ben, The ring that will be used is a 5/8″ diameter 6″ throwing ring. That has been the typical ring used in the past in USAWA meets. However, in England smaller rings are used that more closely fit the fingers and have much smaller diameters. We should look at changing our rules on this to be the same as the IAWA(UK) as this gives an obvious advantage. Al
No idea on the over 1000 views!!! But maybe it does??? I better start looking for a bigger venue for this meet!
Ben, I sure hope you can make it this year! We have missed you the last few years. The grip champs will be on the second weekend of Feb again, and I’ll try to get it sanctioned this week. Al
Well, Timo seemed more concerned than Art when I was going the wrong direction on the round a bouts haha
