I will try to keep it updated at least once a month (and I’m already behind that goal!).
Since getting back from that big trip with Chad I have lots of things to get done!
Dean set a new meeting record for the most “seconds”. haha
soon…..very soon. Hopefully by noon. Al
Have a great birthday Thom!!!!
Thanks guys (I’ll take those comments as a compliment!)
That would be the simple solution to it!
Before I built my specific neck lift bar with 42″ inner sleeve I used 2 sections of 2.5″ OD pipe to slide over my heavy bar to expand the distance of the inner sleeve (I like a wide foot placement for the neck lift). Then just removed it for the other heavy lifts. Steve – I got to ask – how do you do the hand and thigh with that bar of yours???? There’s only room for one leg! Al
Steve, Joe G is right on with the bar specs for the heavy lift bar. A few years I wrote this blog http://www.usawa.com/tag/heavy-lift-bar/ that shows the bar, but since that time the rules where changed for the specs on the inside sleeve (to between 16 and 42) to represent the bars that everyone has. 16 is truly a minimum distance you want between the plates as to not interfere with feet placement. Some prefer wider than this. As Joe said – you can always place inside collars to get this distance for plate loading. Al
The weekend looks to be a fun one!!
I still have a few things to get ready but soon to be done. Look forward to seeing everyone! Al
Steve, I have both ironmind dip and hip belts, and like them for some things in training but not the hip lift. At weights over 1000 pounds you will feel them stretch. Plus you want the belt to “dig in” at the points right over the hip bones for max leverage – wide belts put too much pressure on the lower lumbar. My hip belt is only 2.5″ wide, and I like it better than my 4 inch hip belts.
The 4″ inch max width requirement is the old standard for any regulation lifting belt, and that is the reason it was put in place in the rules to start with for the heavy lifts belts. I’ve never heard of anyone who does a lot of heavy lifting really wanting anything wider so I doubt if you would get much support in getting this changed.
I bet once you try a more narrow belt you will not want that wide thing anymore for hip lifts! Al

As Travis said, the snagging was tough this year. Got several but had to really work for it. But it was still a lot of fun!!!!
Scott, Putting it here in the forum is no problem. Al
Great job ET!!!!
Yes, we will use the IAWA(UK) rules instead of the USAWA rules as has been done in the past at the World Meet.
The similar USAWA lift is the continental to chest and jerk. The jerk must be a legal jerk.
The IAWA(UK) lift is called the continental clean and jerk – meaning BOTH the clean and the jerk can be done with continental rules – meaning anything goes. And YES – you can pressout, strongman press it, etc..
It makes no sense to me to call a lift a continental clean – and even less sense calling something a continental jerk. But this lift was performed at the 2011 Worlds in Australia and that is the way it was performed and officiated.
