I would LOVE to see someone complete the Inman Mile!!
ET was spot-on with the rules – only a belt allowed, no bar pad allowed.
I would recommend having the entire Walk videotaped. Our rules state that a certified USAWA official must be present to judge any USAWA lift, but with something like this, a possible exception might be made by the Executive Board if adequate video coverage was provided. Al
Ben, To be honest I haven’t even began to think about the Grip Champs yet! It will be around the same time (middle February) as the years before. I am hoping that I can organize our Grip Champs on the same day that Mark Haydock hosts the IAWA(UK) Grip Champs and have a World comp as well. I have talked to Mark about us doing a “live feed” competition whereas we would be all competing at the same time and we could watch each other lift via the internet. Maybe even turn it into a USAWA vs. IAWA(UK) meet? Al
Welcome back Ben!!!! Look forward to seeing you this summer. Al
GEEZ ET!!! Why aren’t you writing a weekly story for the USAWA Daily News???? My other “fluff” writer has been letting me down lately. haha
Yea, it’s so goofy I’m going to leave it up a couple more days before I ax it!! Looks to me like someone is trying to sell something – but maybe in the meantime we will get a sequel to Porto the wonder kid!!
I’m still waiting!
One thing that humors me about that picture of ET doing the Hip Lift is Denny laying on the ground behind him. To someone who didn’t understand the proper juding position of these type of lifts, they would wonder what was going on – did he pass out? Is he sleeping? Why is he lying THERE of all places??
Jesse, That is a great goal!! I know you can do it!! Al
I should know better by now than try to disagre with Thom. Being a counselor, he does that for a living (diagreeing with people) and knows how to misdirect any debate or conversation to his favor, and then finally uses words that are made up that completely confuses me!!
And Dave – I do keep track of things like that. I would have also shared the “head to head” win percent between Chad and me, but that’s nobodys business and I’m not like that!! haha
I enjoyed Thom’s story today summarizing the time they had at the MWC. But there is one point I completely disagree with – that he has competed with Chad more than any other athlete.
I did some checking and counting in “my files” and I believe that distinction should go to me, and not Thom. Chad and I have competed against each other in 44 Highland Games, 47 weightlifting meets, and 5 strongman competitions. That’s a total of 96 competitions!!! I doubt if Thom is anywhere close to this number. And I only counted HG’s that we were in the same class together – not in different classes on the same field!!!
I demand a retraction.
I know – I just have a secret gift of knowing how to motivate people!!! How can he NOT do it now??? haha
Just wait till tomorrows Daily News story and the new nickname I pinned on you.
I agree 100%!!! Good response Bryan.
Bryan is a lifter who can put 400 pounds above his head and doesn’t mind stepping up for a drug test anytime. I know very few drug free lifters (who actually passed drug tests) who can do this all naturally – by good ole fashion hard training!!
Thanks Troy and Tom for this discussion. I wasn’t really aware that this legislation was being proposed until I read it here.
I have never been a big supplement user (just daily multi vitamin/mineral pills), but I do know at times they have much health benefits. I do know this from my occupation, if the big drug companys take control of OTC supplements, prices WILL be much higher and less marginal profit items will be discontinued and unavailable.
However, I do believe that some basic regulations should be in place to protect the public on this. Some of the stuff I have read in the past on the “hidden ingredients” in some products scare me … which is the main reason I don’t take supplements in fear that something I innocently took would “flag” a drug test (ie, like prohormones).
