        Updated list:

        Chad Ullom
        Al Myers
        Denny Habecker
        Dale Friesz
        Dennis Mitchell
        Art Montini

The deadline for ordering the awards has already past, so I ordered a total of 15 awards, as that was my best guess on number of participants. So if you plan to attend and want an award, I recommend that you get your entry to me before 7 others do!!!! Al

Jesse, Jean shorts would be allowed under rule VI.4 “lower body must be covered by a one piece suit or shorts. The suit or shorts must not extend lower than the base of the quadriceps muscle. An undergarment is allowed to be worn under the suit or shorts, but must not provide any support that would aid in lifting”.

This description appears to allow jean shorts. However, at a National meet they probably would NOT be allowed, as the meet director has authority to disallow any attire which they feel is inappropriate (rule VI.12), which jean shorts possibly could fall under.

So bottom line is this – they are allowed unless the meet director (you) say they are not, but that may not be a wise move on your part as they could result in a fight!! Al

I really enjoyed myself at Atomic Athletic as well. Friday night Roger gave Eric, Denny and myself a tour of his warehouse. I was able to see several things firsthand that Roger has displayed on his website. Also, Roger has several very unique pieces of equipment that really interested me.

BTW – I just put all my pictures from the weekend on our USAWA facebook page. Not included is ET and my mug shots from our run-in with the police.

Jesse, Most everyone uses a homemade neck harness that is custom fitted. I used the neck harness made by IronMind for awhile, and it was ok until I got stronger. At over 500#, the straps would stretch a little which caused problems. It is probably the best commercial neck harness to use for the Neck Lift. Al

But I did appreciate the encouragment you gave me as I put it down. Towards the end you started sounding like you were pushing me to finish the last 20 feet of a farmers walk, instead of a wing challenge. The intensity you put into encouraging me sured scared the small children at the nearby table as well as getting the drunks off the bar stools, as I’m sure they thought a fight had broke out somewhere and they didn’t want to miss it.

So true – ET is “mentally tough” when it comes to the weights, but he is a bit of a sissy when it comes to a hot wing challenge!!!! hahahahaha

Thanks Tom for those “numbers” on Dave. I would agree with ET on Dave being very unassuming, as he didn’t let on to us any of his past lifting accomplishments. However by the end of the day I had a feeling that he was a MUCH BETTER lifter than he was letting on. The Heavy Lifts are a very poor indicator of overall strength in the Olympic Lifts and Power Lifts, but when he did his Clean and Press I KNEW that he must have put up some big overhead numbers when he was younger.

I really enjoyed meeting him as he is a very nice guy, and a perfect addition to the USAWA. Al

Remember the movie Trains, Planes, and Automobiles???? Well it sorta was like that….or at least the way I’m going to remember it for the story I’ll tell. LOL

PS I’ll drop a bit of it now as it involved ET breaking the law which caused us to be detained for a while. As we waited to be released from the law, our plane took off from Cleveland without us on it.

Jesse, the last time I did this count was over a year ago. It was reported in this blog http://www.usawa.com/would-you-like-your-records/

So to answer your question – it looks like over 150!!!! If I get time this week I’ll do a recount on this and let you know.

BTW – that is a lofty goal for your first USAWA promotion!!!!

I know everyone is probably on the “edge of their seat” awaiting the results of the Heavy Lift Champs this past weekend, and I’m working on the meet report right now so hopefully by the end of the day the results will be up.

One thing I will say is that this was one of the best Heavy Lift Champs I have ever attended. Roger did an excellent job of promoting a great comp along with his picnic. We had a large number in the crowd all day.

Also, a new World Record was established in one of the lifts (best ALL TIME). Any guesses???? Al

I would like to say this about John. He is one of the VERY FEW lifters that I know who has not only competed in All Round Lifting, but competed in Olympic Lifting and Powerlifting as well. He is a true all-round weightlifter!!Al

John V is one of the founding fathers of the USAWA & IAWA for sure. It has been a couple of years since I have seen him though. Al
