I have probably the most extensive collection of blobs that anyone anywhere has. I have full sets of Iron Grip, VTX, York, and hex. They line the bottom of the dumbbell rack and laying side by side cover the entire 40 foot span! I can only lift about half of them – Scott can do them all!!! Al

I couldn’t believe it when Scott did that. When he said he was going to give that a try I about said “yeah, right!” For those who have ever tried blob lifting, the 50# blob is next to impossible to even pick up for a normal person, let alone walk with it. As you can tell from the video, Scott could have went even farther as when he set them down his grip was still on them. I now put this in my “top two” feats I have seen with the blob. The other being seeing Matt Graham snatch it! Al

I just got done reading that article – very nice tribute to John Ware. Nice comments from Thom as well in the article, in which they refer to Thom as a powerlifter/strongman/writer. What’s up with this Thom? Aren’t you a Highland Game athlete first, and then an all arounder?? Al

Congrats to Joe on winning his first Goerner Meet!! Joe has won every other meet in Clarks Gym through the years, but the Goerner has always “escaped him” until now. Also, from the look of Bills results – he lifted pretty good!!! Al

Yeah, it was quite embarrassing, considering the effort it took her to wake me from my slumber. When I finally woke up, the little asian waitress was pushing on my shoulder and saying over and over, “no order – you leave, no order – you leave”

The USAWA is going to be pretty well represented at Worlds. I know Denny Habecker, Dennis Mitchell, Art Montini, Chad Ullom and myself are going. I’m looking forward to the trip!!! Al

Did I hear someone say TOPPER???? I only know one person who can top this comment of Thom’s regarding Bruce Randell. John McKean, where are you when we need ya??

haha Thom – I’m actually surprised you even read that, cause I figured you would have given up reading the story by that time. I know the sheer image of a mathematical graph turns your brain off. Now Tom Ryan, that’s another issue. He is probably “replotting the graphs” right now, and I’ll be hearing from him how the whole lynch formula is statisically incorrect!! Al

This is an issue that should be addressed to determine a better plan for keeping these records. It seems to me that this list should be a separate list from the individual record list. I know Steve broke several of Howards “overall” rep records in the back and harness, but Howards marks should still be recorded records because he was older when he did them. Next question Joe – how do you record a bodyweight rep record, like Dennis’s rep record on the Roman Chair Situp? Al

When I received that story from Dale, and read it I was “taken back”. I have NEVER HEARD of anyone overcoming the physical things Dale has and continues to lift, and not just lift, but COMPETE as well!! I would hope I would have the same tenacity as Dale if faced with the same circumstances, but I’m not sure that is true. He is a TRUE ROLE MODEL for anyone facing a physical obstactle. I am hanging that picture of him doing that Ring Fingers Deadlift with the prosthesis on up in the weightroom for inspiration. Whenever someone in the gym is complaining of some minor injury and say they can’t lift (and when compared to what Dale has faced – EVERYTHING ELSE in minor) – I tell them about Dale. And on top of that – a 122# Ring Finger Deadlift is a GREAT LIFT that alot of young lifters couldn’t do!!

THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER DALE FRIESZ!!!!

                              Good question Jarrod!!!

Repetition lifts have always been part of All Round Weightlifting. The old time strongmen often did rep lifts in their shows, thus why we are trying to continue that tradition. I’m talking about guys like Warren Lincoln Travis, the Good Brothers, etc.

But the questions you have are the same ones I have always had as well. It seems the possiblilites would be endless when it comes to rep records – lifters BWT, weight picked, etc. So it looks to me pretty much anything done for reps would be a record of some sort if it was kept the same way as individual max wt records.

I would like to hear the Records Director Joe G’s viewpoints on this and how he keeps “these records”. Joe????? Al

                                  GOOD ONE!!!

The rules for a trap bar “fall outside” of the rules critera of a legal bar. The Trap Bar DL is a Special Equipment Lift and is defined in the rule book glossary as “This is a bar that contains a frame around the lifter, and has parallel handles located at the lifters sides for gripping”.

When I updated the Rulebook in 2009, I added this to the rule of the Trap Bar DL which is located in the rule – “the trap bar must not be of the type that contains elevated handles”. I did this because there are several commercially available trap bars that have elevated handles, and this definitely enhances the amount of weight that can be lifted and shouldn’t be allowed.

Other than these rules covering a trap bar, anything else is allowed. There is no mention of sleeve length, rotating sleeves, or width of handles. So your bar sounds like a legal trap bar to me! Al
