Thom, the video camera Jarrod referenced is the one I have now (and used at your meet). It is perfect for short videos, and is cheap enough that I don’t mind just throwing it in my gym bag. It can be mounted on a tripod if you want. It takes great HD videos and uploads to YouTube easily. All of the recent USAWA Videos have been done with it. Al
Thanks guys!
Coming next USAWA BEER!!! haha
Great publicity for the JWC and the USAWA!!! Al
Thom and I have talked quite a bit about our “passion” for weightlifting in the past. Once Thom told me that “he loves the process of training”. I couldn’t agree more – too many lifters get caught up in the end results only, and don’t enjoy “the process” it takes to get them there. I truly enjoy my time in the gym training, and I design my workouts to be enjoyable AND challenging. Too many lifters get “burnt out” because they don’t enjoy their training time, and in turn, quit.
This sounds like another topic for a Daily News Story!!!! Al
I thought I was just asking an innocent question of which no one answered. All I got was Thom’s response on how his sausage was bigger than yours. Whatever…
It took you FIVE DAYS to come up with THAT RESPONSE!! haha
Jarrod, The side press with the bar is not really as difficult as you would think it would be. It won’t be the most difficult lift in the Dino Challenge. You will find the one arm BP more difficult. Al
I “second” everything Thom said. This HAS to be one of the best attendances at Art’s Bash ever. Does anyone know what this record is???
Overall, a pretty amazing weekend for the USAWA – 14 lifters at Arts and 10 lifters at Thoms. It has been a LONG TIME since we have had a weekend such as this. Al
Thom,
GREAT MEET! I want to publically THANK YOU for the job well done in promoting the FIRST EVER OTSM Championships in the USAWA. In fact, you did such an excellent job I am going to put you in charge of this meet EVERY YEAR from now on!
Al
I got a good question regarding that picture of Dave and Thom in todays Daily News.
Is that a sausage Dave is getting ready to eat, or is it his thumb he’s getting ready to lick clean?? hmmmm….
Whatever’s going on – Thom sure looked interested in it.
I’m gonna make the dumbbells today for the dumbbell to shoulder. This is a real design challenge because of the potential weight lifted and making the dbs strong enough that they will not bend/break if dropped. I’m wondering – are any of you planning on lifting up to 300# on this? I’m talking specifically to guys like ET, Chris and John. If so, I need to make the db long enough to accomodate this loaded with 25s, but I don’t want to make the db too long because that will hinder the shouldering of it with lighter weight (like for the rest of us!!!) Al
Thanks Tom for that information. Al
Not as famous as you Jarrod! I just got done watching your YouTube video of your last fight and I’m quite impressed! There is not a sport as hardcore as MMA! All I can say is WOW! I’m looking forward to hearing your story of the trip.
As for the picture – I have always kept all USAWA pictures on this website as “free access” to anyone. I know at times we have probably infringed on copyright laws regarding pictures (especially Thom!) because we use pictures we find places and then put them on the website without giving photo credits. But I’m of the philosophy of sharing – and I feel if someone really wants to “protect” their pictures they should go to the work of having their name placed on the picture somewhere or they should just be “fair game” for anyone to use. I don’t use any of John Woods (of the Old Time Strongman blog) pictures for this reason – because he makes sure to have his name plastered all over his pictures. However, most of the pictures he has on his blog I can usually find somewhere else as well without the “name captions”.
I really like it when pictures from our website are copied and then show up in other places. That is telling me that we are “making an influence” on the weightlifting community. Our website is getting a pretty high page rank now, and when you do a google search of images of certain lifts, our pictures are always at the top of the list. Al
ET, I’ll be there for sure. I’m not going to be in great form for any of these events, but gonna give it a go. Let’s talk this weekend about you putting on an Oldtime strongman meet in the spring. I talked to Scott last week and he said you can have March if you want, and he’ll push our Strongman meet back to July. I got ideas on a couple neat events for you to do. See ya this weekend! Al
Thanks Ben for that posting that link! I might not have seen this blog if it wasn’t for that. Just wondering – who writes this blog? Al
