Ben, Yes – I will have a way for everyone to do any of the events in this oldtime strongman comp. This competition will follow the rules of the USAWA, which means you select the weight for your attempts. This is one major difference from the current, modern strongman competitions where the weight of the event is selected for you by the meet director. I want to make this for everyone. You will receive three attempts per event, just like any other USAWA meet. Al
It is a VERY GOOD book – loaded with all sorts of training information for just about everyone. I am about finished reading it. It contains LOTS of pictures demonstrating about every exercise known. Al
Thom, haha Now I know why you lean back so much on your presses – a habit formed from your early days of avoiding the rafters when overhead pressing! Al
The book said, “a new, larger ring made to replace it”. So I’m assuming the ring was initially probably the size of the small stone. Al
It does not take much to have an effective training area for productive training. All I would really just need is a good bar, 800 pounds of plates, a platform, and a cage. I could do 90% of my current workout with just that. Al
Eric, I’ll try to get the entry form up soon. It will probably be after I get back from Worlds though. Looks like this meet has generated lots of interest so far. Al
In David Webster and Gordon Dinnies Book “Donald Dinnie”, they make mention that the larger ring was broken and replaced in the early 1950’s.
Thom, 640 – Isn’t that ALSO you’re best deadlift??? I’m pretty sure that was the number I saw on your personal record board. Al
Tom – It is amazing how we can see “about everything” via the internet and YouTube.
As for Scotty’s video becoming famous among YouTube Videos – I agree it has a ways to go. I just didn’t want to overwhelm Scotty C by mentioning more than 10,000 views as elite status, because if I did it would overwhelm him and he would start doing things like giving extra credit to his students for watching it. (Oh wait a minute – he’s ALREADY doing that!!!) haha Al
It was a GREAT weekend!!! These things are always a lot of work getting ready for, but well worth it!! I think everyone had a lot of fun. Team Nationals went very well for everyone. It was interesting the wide variety of lifts that we did – and getting to use that specialty built 2-man trap bar that I made just for this occasion. Now time to hang it on the wall. Al
hahahahahahahahahaha IT’S ABOUT TIME YOU POSTED LITTLE T!!! PS Tedd – you CAN edit your own profile yourself if you want too. HAHA
I agree with what Eric said 100%! The older I get the more I realize the REAL REASON I work out is the CHALLENGE it presents and my inner battle to overcome the weights in front of me at the moment. Whether you “rise to occasion” and deadlift 300 pounds or 600 pounds it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you gave it all you had that night and beat the weights. Of course, some training days the weights get the best of you regardless of your strength capabilities, but that is what makes it challenging. If weightlifting was easy, I wouldn’t do it. Al
I’m betting he’ll show up on time – but then I’ll have to tell him what lifts we are doing!! OK – that gives it away, we didn’t really train together much for this one!! Al
Chad, I had PLANNED on you being at the meet on Sunday, otherwise I would be doing the team lifts by myself! As for start times – don’t you read the website partner?!? Al
Tom, I am not doubting you on that!! I have been to the Heavy Lift Championships a few times, and that is demanding enough! The Zercher Meet contains pretty much ALL the Heavy Lifts PLUS other fun lifts like the Zercher and Steinborn Lifts. The only event Bill has every put on that is more physically exhausting than the Zercher Meet is the Weightlifters Weekend he promoted in the mid 80’s. Al PS I’ll make it to the Zercher one these years!!
