I always thought that was what your nickname Big T implied – BIG TIME!! Al
Thom, I am a little embarrassed to report that the JWC is sitting in second to last place in the Club Race with ONLY 1 point (one other club has 0 points). I guess the JWC must be pacing themselves, and plan for a “sprint” at the end. Al
Dave, The point system is laid out in a story I did a few days ago, as Chad said. Al
I think that would be a GREAT thing for him to do! I’ll sure make it. Al
I have known Bobby for MANY years. In the mid 90’s I would compete several times a summer on the west coast and seemed to ALWAYS run across Bobby at games. Most don’t know this about him, but I bet that he has the RECORD for attending the MOST Highland Games thru his career. I have done over 200 games myself, but I bet Bobby has done over a 1000. He is too modest to brag about this accomplishment himself, but I wish someone would look into it to prove it is so. One year at the KC Highland Games (which I tried to always go to since it was my closest games) I ran into Bobby there. I was amazed to see him come so far for such a small games (which it was at the time). When I asked him why he would come to the KC games, he said it was a goal of his to compete in a Highland Game in all 50 states!!! And I am sure he has accomplished this by now!!! I have great respect for Bobby and everything he has done to promote the Highland Games, and it is a great honor to me that I made his scrapebook.
Another thing Thom – thanks for saying those nice things about me. What did you want me to build you next?? Al

Thom, Just one of you doing the Continental to Belt. You look really mean in the picture. I didn’t take out any pictures from the previous rulebook. The difficulty is getting new pictures for lifts that are not represented – all the good (or common) lifts are already taken. I hope to added a few every year until ALL of the lifts are represented. Al
BTW – I added 8 new pictures of these great lifters – Dale Friesz, Randy Smith, John McKean, Ben Edwards, John Monk, Mike Murdock, Dave Glasgow, and Thom Van Vleck.
I can relate to that. I’ll never forget the time I removed an eyeball from a cow with cancer eye(and it was a PERFECT specimen so I was going to preserve it). I had it in my hand as I carried it through the back door of the clinic. Well, I didn’t realize the Culligan Man was in the back delivering his water order, since I was admiring this big bloody cow eyeball I had in my hand. He took one look at it and fell to his knees!! He always acted nervous from then on when he was around me. I think he was afraid I might pull something “gross” out of my pocket and try to show it to him. Al
I never even gave it a second thought about Dave having deer skulls/antlers in his gym. That is NORMAL to me. But then again, probably there are gyms where that would seem odd and out of place and people would take notice. I’m not the one to talk on this though – since I have several big pickle jars filled with various specimens fixed in formaldehyde in my office that I look at ever day. Is there anything in YOUR GYM that might seem out of place to someone else?? Al
Dave, I was watching when the damage occurred. I want to point out that it wasn’t entirely Scott’s fault. He just gently brushed against the antler, but this slight contact with Scott’s hardened chiseled muscles caused the antler to snap like a twig. A normal human would have sustained a laceration. Al
Tom, Thank you for this history lesson on the use of formulas. I greatly appreciated it since I have been recently “studying” the different formulas. Your knowledge of formulas and their use is EXACTLY why I am going to keep after you to help me expand the Lynch Factor Chart to higher bodyweights. This problem needs resolved. We will need the cooperation of the IAWA(UK) on this. My feeling since the “original” Lynch Formula can not be located is to extrapolate the numbers on the current chart to higher bodyweights. The lynch factors now go to 150 Kgs (and I suspect that from 140 on they HAVE BEEN extrapolated). I could see going to around 175 kgs and then anyone weighing above that just receives the highest factor on the chart. I also would like to see the factors from 150 kg on to “level out” significantly, as they should. Let me know if this is possible. Al
The documentary was done very professionally. It did present the Pro-drug side alot – and gave insight to the motives of those involved. I was impressed with how Greg Valentino presented himself with his responses. He was a well-built bodybuilder before his quest with big arms started. He even admitted to suffering from the “little man complex” that provided his motivation. I was amused by Louie’s comments, especially the one regarding Smelly going off, “he’ll be back on.” I absolutely agree that steroids are psychologically addictive – more so than physically addictive. The movie took a big slam on Arnold and his hypocrisy regarding the issue. It even took shots at my wrestling hero the Hulkster. What about the segment on supplements and the regulation of them? I had no idea that someone could hire a couple of guys off the street to mix up a little creatine with rice flour, label it as “proprietary ingredients”, print some labels up and hand stuff the pills. That is crazy!! I don’t even take supplements for fear of what is really in them, and now I won’t for sure. If anyone gets a chance to see this show (I think it was on Cinemax)- watch it. Al
The truth was that we were all still asleep from staying up too late telling stories and enjoying Dave’s premium beverages the night before!! Al
Dave – Thanks for the great time! Everyone present REALLY enjoyed your first USAWA promotion. I’ll try to get the meet results up today. Al
