I’m getting my stuff around right now to head to Dave’s for a weekend of fun! The good times…. Al
Ben – THAT IS INSANE!! (and I totally believe you did it despite the gripper leaving the camera view for a split second) haha Great Job!! I would like to see that firsthand this weekend – and if you can do it after a few shots of Scotch I’ll REALLY be impressed! Al
We may have a couple of Dino Teams for this one. Lots of the guys in the gym really liked the selection of lifts you picked. Finally, a meet for the big guys!! You’re not so bad Thom. Al
Haha You know I’m just teasing you Thom. I’m an old Kansas farm kid myself – and do appreciated and enjoy old machinery. I got great memories racking hay with my Dad’s old WD tractor and cutting wheat with the old Gleanor combine. Al
Thom, I didn’t know you’ve seen my new mower? Pretty close on the description – but it takes me an 1 hour and 1/2 instead on an hour to mow my 10 acres. But I am a slow driver.
Where are going to buy steel tires for your tractor when the ones on it now rust out? Looks to me if you buy two horses you will have more horsepower than your tractor. Wasn’t THAT the tractor made by Ford’s grandfather?
I pretend not to notice.
suck up
Thom, I will agree to that if this story is titled, “by Thom Van Vleck AND Al Myers” instead of “by Thom Van Vleck WITH Al Myers”. As for the story on Russ, I am going to Colorado Springs in a couple of weeks and thought I would stop by and see him. Maybe he will be done with the tape recording of the interview by then (I hate to see how many hours long it will be!!) and we can get that story done also. Al
Travis, I do understand how you feel, and I agree at 300 pounds the Lynch Formula will kill you with the adjustments. I am still part old school powerlifter. It didn’t take me long going to power meets to realize that the only lifters who really got noticed were the big guys putting up the big lifts. So I ate alot, lifted hard, ate some more, and lifted harder. Soon I was pushing 300 pounds and squatting and deadlifting over 700, and being one of the last guys on the platform at the end of the meet. I still “fight the urge” to eat my way out of a lifting slump. All-Round lifting has been the best thing for me in fighting that terrible disease I had of reverse anorexia (ok – THAT comment may not be politically correct!!haha). Al
Travis – As I said earlier, formulas do have their drawbacks in that the strongest man doesn’t always win. All-Round weightlifting has always been about pound per pound strength. But I really do think that a mixture of rewarding athletes for both aspects should be done. When I started competing in the All-Rounds I lost close to 50 pounds bodyweight to be more competitive with the formulas. I lost lots of strength but overall I am more well-rounded strength-wise now and definitely much healthier. Al
What’s going on here?? I’m away from the computer for only a few hours and the JWC is trying to steal the thunder from the Dino Gym by writing a story for MILO on the Dino Gym’s Phenom!!! I should be writing THAT story! Thom – you sure didn’t hesitate to take advantage of the situation!! Al
Thom – I don’t believe it!! But I’m not one to talk – I am the one that once got beat by Mary Mac at the Goerner DL in ALL the finger deadlifts. Bill went to great lengths to report that in the Journal several times. One important ingredient in being an All-Rounder is being able to “laugh” at yourself!! Al
Sorry Ben – but I got pictures!!
Another note – our forum got its first HOT TOPIC!! Al
Extending the deadline will give a little more time for the crippled JWC to get healed up. They’re going to need to be in top form if they think they got a chance against the Dino Gym. haha Al
Chad – you got me on that one. Al
