you know, i actually knew a couple who met while the woman was working as a barmaid. she was standing at the end of the bar holding a bus tray, & the gentleman rolled his glass eye into her tray. love at first sight.
sounds like a great meet, congrats to all competitors & especially the winners!
i’m really glad you liked the story al. steve scott asked me to write that for his newsletter, & it sure was fun reliving the good old days. the injury-ridden, bone breaking good old days.
“big” is always relative, isn’t it? :/
welcome back. i’ve been gone myself, i need to get back to it.
al, don’t forget colorado!
i’m a newbie myself. i just wanted to add that i believe you can compete in the postals with out a certified official, but those lifts will not count towards records.
i’m having a lot of fun getting to know USAWA & i hope you are too.

pterodactyl?
thanks james, glad you liked the story. i figured there were lots of ways to work in all around lifts that i didn’t know about, & i was right!
yup, home safe & sound. this trip seemed doomed from the beginning.
karena & i made it out to limon before our car started giving us problems! we just now hobbled home after hours on the road. i was really looking forward to this event & even left my new job a little early today so i could make it. i was planning on claiming one of those terrific awards! good luck everybody. i promise i’ll make it out someday.
great article by larry. it explains a lot about both me & my dog.
well money is a little tight for me & has been ever since i moved to denver, but the low membership fee (which i will renew next month!) gives me something fun & inexpensive to do that my whole family enjoys. i understand al’s frustration, but i hope USAWA stays low cost as long as no members have to subsidize others.
thom makes a point about “entitlement thinking”. i hope the low costs aren’t hurting anyone else–if they are i will drop out until i can afford to pay more. but i’m really grateful to have such a terrific sport available to me. thanks to the guys who put all the real work in this organization.

congratulations!
i’m all for brining USAWA into line with the IAWA. mainly because i’d rather set & break world records than national ones! but i don’t think it’s quite fair to wipe the records clean. maybe there should be retired records, or “legacy lifts” or something like that. just a brief note on the old rules & the records as they stood until the new rules were adopted. that might also be good comparative data to see if new changes really are leading to increased numbers.
the folks who set the old records worked hard to do it, & they did it by the rules as they were at the time. seems a shame to just make it not count.

i’m with you there. i really like the couple issues of milo that i’ve gotten a hold of but man, it was very expensive the last time i checked.
hm, i would love to come! i’ll do my best to be there. i’ve been wanting to take another trip to KC.
