ET,
Haven’t sent my entry in yet, but plan on doing so. Fun weekend, the Deanna, then the Strongman. Thought it was funny that you have the Crucifix with (Standard USAWA rules), and the Apollons lift and Goerner Stroll are also USAWA lifts now.
Yep, I only knew Bill, and maybe another gym guy or two as I had only been a gym member for maybe a week or two. Course Bill had only been open a few days before I joined. Clark told me there was going to be that demo with Steve. I think we also did a bench meet on the same day.
Has it been that long? LOL. I remember that meet/demo when Steve performed, having just joined the gym. Bill had advertised a strongman to perform, and there was a father and son team in attendance, both big strong looking guys. The assumption was one of them being the strongman, so when Bill introduced Steve and up stands this 220lb guy, it was kind of a shock. But, he did go one to give a great demonstration of strength. His wrestlers bridge and press is still probably the most impressive lift I’ve seen.
Great story, Al.
ET, glad you guys showed up. Was a fun day, other than it was long, and painful. I’m still feeling it today. Probably run tomorrow and see about some lifting in the evening.
Actually, at home I almost always workout in socks. Just a habit that start some time ago.
Dave, hope it goes great and welcome!
Who knows? He may still be inside.
Tom,
You are right, I don’t know him. When Bill and I were talking, seems to me that he wasn’t sure on the spelling of the name. Not sure how to correct that in a published article.

I agree with Eric. As long as we adhere to the dress code that we have, it should be sufficient. We just need to make sure that we don’t get lax with the code.
Jarrod, one thing you probably don’t know is that our founder, Bill Clark, had a big hand in the creation of Powerlifting as an actual sport and not just odd lifting as an offshoot of weightlifting.
I think Howard’s records are still all there, saw several of them in the list. Remember age is part of any record. As to lifts like Denny’s, I have them listed with the reps without any weight.
Repetition lifts? Well the bookkeeping starts the same as regular lifts. You have an age group and a weight class. Then the only real difference is that my program has a place for the number of reps when that type of lift is entered. And you are right Al, there are almost endless possibilities. I lift 100 lbs 10 times, you lift 105 lbs 9 times, etc. Don’t really know how we would do any differently. Fortunately, right now only about a dozen lifts have ‘rep’ records.
Very enjoyable guys
I have that book that was in the article. Fun read.
