I like a lot of the OTSM lifts but I do not think they should be contested in meet like our National Championships, Because many of the lifts take too long to set up. We used to have a rule that we had to have at least one heavylift in the National Championships. That rule was changed because someone that was exceptional on the heavylifts could win the meet on the strength of one lift. I can see the same thing happening with the OTSM lifts. We have an OTSM Championship every year and the OTSM lifts can be done on Record days or meets like the Hackendinnie.
I agree that we have more than enough lifts. When I was asked to be on the Technical committee, I said I would do it, but I would vote against most new lifts because we had too many already. And that was years ago! I think we should eliminate some lifts that rarely done anyhow, or are just variations of other lifts.

Karen was a very special friend to all USAWA & IAWA families. She fought an intense battle against Brain cancer, but lost her battle on July 27th. She will always be remembered in our hearts & memories. May God Bless Steve, Jon, Diane, Dom,Grace, James, Zoe, & Sonny. Rest in Peace Karen. I will love you forever.

Great article Eric.
Your argument about if we are limiting record days to 5 lifts, then we should limit all meets to five lifts does not make sense. In a meet like the world’s or nationals that has more than 5 lifts, it will rare that someone will set a record in every lift.

Great job guys. Wish I could have been there.
Great article Eric!
Randy is right. The five lift limit was made to make it easier on our record keeper. Keeping track of thousands of records is no easy task.
Allowing gear is a slippery slope. We already allow knee wraps for squats. Do we want to allow squat suits and bench shirts that take 2 or 3 guys to help you put on? I know there are quite a few lifts that I liked when I was younger, that I no longer can do. That’s just the way it is. I just do the lifts I can. I don’t think our sport will ever become mainstream, but if we can all at least recruit a few new members, we can keep this organization alive.Excellent Article Eric!
I have tried for years to get other people involved in Allround lifting with not too much luck. I have gotten a few lifters in the past, but most of them are no longer active. Every time I see someone at New York Fitness that looks like he could be a competitive lifter, I tell him about Allround lifting. So far that has not gotten us one new lifter. I will keep trying though.
OK Dan, I understand what you are saying. I guess I don’t take the sport seriously enough. I always want to lift well at the meets, but the social part of the meet is a big part of what makes it enjoyable. Also, the meetings are not always held the night before the meet. Sometimes they are held right after the lifting and some people don’t even stay for the meeting then.
Dan, You mean a meeting the night before you lift would be a distraction from your lifting? I don’t understand that. I go to a meet to lift my best , but also to socialize with the other lifters. I don’t think I would lift any better by just showing up on the morning of the meet without any interaction with anyone else. That is just me, although there many just like me in our organization.
It looked like a fun meet! Sure wish I could have been there.
