Congrats to Emily Burchett for bringing her athleticism to USAWA! I hope that in the future, there will be more photos posted of her in action because she represents the sport very well!
I keep forgetting to post that we have a Seca scale “with an accuracy greater than ± 0.15 %”. This is what we are using for meets done in Colorado to include Postals.
We weighed and compared results with a Sunbeam digital bathroom floor scale and it was very accurate.
Most of my old 1″ hole plates weighed heavy. The most inaccurate standard plate that I have is a BFCO 10 lb that weighed in at 9.4 lbs.
And I must add that she won 5 Worlds and 12 National champs. I believe there is a huge difference between lifters who just do RB and Postals and those who put themselves out-there by competing in Nationals and Worlds.
Oh but I have a long way to come close to Noi Phumchaona.
Noi competed for 18 yrs. I can only hope that I will still be competing at age 63.
She was a power athlete whereas I am into strength. Thus I won’t be the one to break her C&J and snatch type of records. Along with all her USAWA records, she still holds the Pan Am Masters WL records in the snatch and C&J. Lastly she is in the USAWA Hall of Fame and OH WL Hall of Fame.
I wish I knew why she stopped lifting because she would have been a valuable resource for advice. Fortunately I know Denny but it is not the same as having another women especially one in my weight class.

I just watched it on YouTube. …and Typhoid Thom. Too funny.
And 3 days before surgery you did the Postal meet? 🙂
I seen that on videos but it is still an unbelievable myth to me. I cannot image this mentality.
I really like that USAWA does not contest Olympic lifts and Powerlifting lifts because there are other Federations that offer these. I feel the same about grippers, hub lifts, penny lifts, sledgehammer, etc.
Just my opinion.
I agree with ET. I will have to try your tips Ben and I greatly appreciate the advice.
I wish that I could have been there too. Since USAWA introduced me to Grip lifts, I love them.
Can you scan the page and post it?
I know of Mary because Dan also talks about Mary from the 2002 Super Grip Challenge. Wish I would have known about USAWA back then.
Thanks!
I cannot tell you how good it felt maxing out in a real gym after training in a Recreation Center all year. Since I rather lift than officiate, it does not matter to me that there weren’t any other lifters (except Dan). Besides, Dan was cranking the music and lifting so forcefully that he filled the room with such intensity that I did not even miss anyone or thing around me. It was a great day. I wish I lived closer to KS so I could participate in more meets. It just makes me feel so good or did I already say that?
Nice! 🙂
