Somebody sent me videos! I’m a little disturbed and I was in the MARINES and my Dad was Truck Driver so I thought I’d seen it all! I still don’t know why the sheep was wearing a mask that looked like Chad’s face.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderTom, it’s like me and Al debating the “spin” technique on the WOB. We each like the one we are best at!
I do think levering is a great exercise, I have a loadable sledge hammer for levering. I made Al one, too.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderBen, I lost my Dad a few years back. I can still tear up a little if I think about him. Sorry for your loss.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI will say this: When I was a kid, my granddad did “lever” exercises with broom sticks and other things like that. He exercised all the time and if he were raking leaves he would take the rake by the end and lever it up in front and the in back, then maybe move it in a circle. So, when I was a teen and started lifting I did the same thing and every once in awhile I throw these into my grip training.
I think levering is a great way, and underutilized way, to work the grip and forearms. However, I think the weaver stick lift is….well….kind of a stupid lift for the purposes of keeping records. You just don’t have much of a way to differentiate between lifts and consistency in how the lifts are done.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI kinda thought the same thing about today’s story. Now, having read weightlifting mags going WAAAY back, they were all basically ads for the equipment being sold by the publisher. That being said, there was a lot of useful information in there. It was up to the reader to read and decide. So, I don’t have a problem the articles promoting something he’s selling. I would “like” to see useful information in the article which this last one did not. For example, if he would have written a story with information about the conversion, how to calculate it, and also an easy way I learned for figuring it in your head was take the KGX2+10% (ex. 100kg X 2 = 200 + 10% of 200 or 20 = 220lbs).
So, that’s my opinion, allow this stuff, but take the time to write a little something on the subject.
I have enjoyed Rogers’ stories so I hope he keeps it coming.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI would like everyone to know that Al was against me using this weekend because of World’s being the weekend before and he was concerned about Art’s Birthday Bash. For me it’s an issue of that weekend being the weekend of my Highland Games and me wanting to take advantage of 50 or so athletes already being in town and getting a few to come to my meet. Highland Games are tough to schedule because there are so many and the athletes tend to go to most of them and if I had it any other weekend earlier than that I would not get a good turn out due to competing with those games. Plus, locally, our town is DOMINATED by Truman State University and the weekends after that are homecoming, parents day, Red Barn, etc. and you are lucky to get a motel room with 50 miles..seriously. And then you get in November and it’s not a good time to have an outdoor event (tried that, it snowed).
So no disrespect to what Al and Chad are doing with World’s, no disrespect intended towards Art, just me trying to make things work on my end. Hope those who can will come by. Next year, that date will hopefully not fall on Art’s Birthday!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderWell, I’ll be honest, I don’t like following World’s like that, but my deal is an annual event and World’s is not and my meet has to be that weekend due to other factors related to things going on in the highland games world and local events that would eat up motel rooms, etc, etc.
If you can make it, we’d love to have you. If not, I totally understand.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderJesse, that’s a can of worms with the old timers, but I, too, wish some reasonable gear would be allowed in the lifting. I also understand it’s a slippery slope having been involved in powerlifting for years.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI got an uncle that trains barefoot. I wear shoes at all times when training. I like to lace them up tight, too. I also have throwing shoes for good weather, bad weather, special shoes for the caber, squat shoes, olympic lifting shoes, cross trainers, wrestling shoes for the deadlift, so not only do I wear shoes, I have lots of special shoes for different types of lifting…..but I still have a LONG way to go to catch my wife!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI had that sent to me on my facebook page and the claim was 153lbs which would be possible. Used to me you could look at the plates and easily tell.. but anymore there are so many different sizes. I have a lot of different sizes of plates and you can load the bar out to the ends and lift it!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderMy brother contacted me about wanting to do the Goddard meet and I for a year he’s been saying he’ll take the test….and never did it. At least maybe now this will motivate him to get it done! haha
I give Al way too much grief about rules. He’s done a lot of work to make things work better and I appreciate that.
