I am on board as well. I think that what most who are “reserved” about this should realize is that by creating a separate category you are able to preserve the Primary USAWA lifts and rules intact. Otherwise, trying to incorporate these lifts without the OTSM guidelines would probably really screw things up. Keep up the good work! I really enjoyed the meet at my place!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderWell, your comment was so lame I really didn’t fell it deserved a reply….but then I kinda felt bad for you seeing as you put in what, for you, was obviously a lot of thought and work and figured it was the least I could do.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderGeez, Al, are you drinking Gin & Tonics that early in the day? For you information, I was making sure his sausage wasn’t bigger than mine……

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderGreat Highland Games. Weather was perfect (which the running joke is that it’s never perfect at Kirksville). I know there were some big numbers. Mine were decent.
But more relevant to this board, the Old time Strongman Nationals went off well. We had 10 athletes show and some big lifts were made. I was happy with the turn out and the meet went off without a hitch. A full meet report is to come but the top men were Al Myers who edged out Eric Todd ONLY after his age adjustment was added, then Joe Costello edged out John O’Brien after the weight difference between the two was calculated. In 5th was Chris Anderson beating out me and getting a little revenge for the NAHA Nationals. I’m pretty sure it was Dean Ross, Rudy Bletcher, Mike Murdock and Lance Foster after that. Full report to come….I’m so sore after throwing Saturday, all the loading, unloading, staying up til 2:00am telling stories, getting up at 7:00 for a hearty breakfast before lifting all day long! About the best weekend a guy could ask for. Thanks everyone that came!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderTom, I want to thank you for getting me in touch the Glenn. I talked to him twice while working on the Whitfield article. I enjoyed our talks and I am glad I did not put off that story. I mentioned him in the article and he gave me valuable leads in that story for which I appreciate very much.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI’ll add to that….There’s a sister Church to mine that has a pastor who’s last name is Steuve (pronounced “Steve) and he has a son named Scott and I made that same connection in my mind when I saw that.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderWow….I was just joking on the hosting a meet…..but that will be a great place to hold the meet. Plus, we will have to have a record day at the “Original Dino Gym” the next day because anyone traveling that far MUST lift in the original as well.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderJarrod, I will say this, Dave has not control over the shirts, but he probably took responsibility for being short of them. I wanted a 3X but he was out so I squeezed into a 2X.
It was great to meet you, sorry we didn’t get to talk more.
As for the games, top notch as usual. Missed seeing Al on Sunday, he was planning on coming by but said he was on call so hopefully he wasn’t too busy on Sunday!
The atmosphere at Mac is hard to beat!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI have made all kinds of connections to Steve Scott over the years. Steve has impacted and influences SO MANY in the strength and martial arts world. Amazing. He had a connection with the JWC before I ever even picked up a weight!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderWe had a wonderful “REAL” gym in Kirksville, called J&R’s Gym owned by Jeff Jacques. When it went under is when I built the first version of the JWC training hall, about 1995. Been training there ever since. No real gyms withing 88 miles of Kirksville….what’s 88 miles away…why Clark’s Gym of course!!!!!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderHmmmm, what if the mile was all slightly downhill…..Or if I jumped out of a plane with a parachute and the weight, then after a mile free fall, chucked the weight and pulled the chute!!!! haha

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderAl, great story, funny stuff.
I remember the first time I heard about this….I was CERTAIN it was a joke. The reality is that most people that will spend $$$$ will buy into these kinds of places. Most of us are too SMART to buy into memberships to gyms that don’t have the PROPER equipment to get strong.
I wonder if the ACLU will file a lawsuit on my behalf for discrimination.
