Most of you guys know I did a story on him for MILO and during that time I talked to him on the phone and since then I have kept in touch via email. I am going to do a story on him for the webpage.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderSince it looks like I won’t cross my 10 lifter threshold (8 have paid entries) it will be at my place. I have cleaned up the gym and moved some stuff around to maximize space. It you Google my address (23958 Morgan Road, Greentop, MO 63546 you will NOT get good directions to my house….use Mapquest and you will get the proper directions….Google will take you down a road that has no bridge!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI had a guy I’ll call “Dick” that I went to high school with. He was telling everyone that he could bench press 300 for 10 sets of 10 reps. Now, he looked fairly well built but that was a pretty fantastic claim. My Uncle invited him to come down to the gym. He loaded up the bar, finally did 245 for 3 reps and got pinned on the 4th. Come to find out he had been lifting on a Universal machine.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI used to think 50 was old….but not anymore!!! I hit 20ft in the WOB this year! And 21ft in practice!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-Rounderthanks, ET. I agree totally. I have made so few of my goals that if that’s how I measure progress I’d be pretty disappointed. But I always set high expectations because when I hit a goal then it’s easy to think it’s a finish line….

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderI think this is what Dan was saying…but the first thing I would do is throw out factoring age. Just have the age groups and leave it at that. It’s not that I mind getting beat by an 80 years old man….the system is arbitrary or I believe Dan said lacks validity. And it does. I threw in a Highland Games one time where they use a percentage for each year for the masters class. I lost the Weight Over Bar when I threw 18ft and a 68 year old guy threw 13ft. First of all, you can’t make that spectator friendly…second of all, I had NO IDEA he won until the factored formula in AFTER the event was OVER. As a matter of fact, the two guys who finished behind me were surprised as well.
But please don’t take any of this as criticism. Just an opinion. I don’t want to throw out the baby with the bath. There will always be things to disagree on and there are MANY things with the USAWA that I like!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderSo do I have this correct when I say that HRT is keeping Hormone levels up after they drop with age or health problems while using steroids to build muscle is taking the levels above the “normal” range?

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderWhere they get used is by the fitness crowd in our gym…and Dan…I much prefer to come clean off the ground in my cleans and I’ve popped a blood vessel or two in my day.
Here’s a funny story. My Granddad would grab those 50lb block weights every time he would walk in the garage and snatch them overhead. I remember thinking as a kid I’d be pretty bad ass if I could do that. I would grab them, but no luck and drop them. Then one day I got them both! And as I peered up holding them and admiring my bad ass self…all of 13 or 14 years old…each block rotated out in opposite directions (no allowing me to easily drop them) and banged against each arm! That HURT!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderET, I have cut them with a hack saw and had no problem with the threads….just worked the nut on and off a couple times (that’s what she said).

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderHere’s a sort of related question: My Uncle claims the original Nautalis equipment was legit stuff and that all the stuff that came after was a joke. Curious about how others felt about this.
As for Casey, I have an autographed photo of him in my gym. Found his number, called him up. Discussed doing a story on him for Milo but he wasn’t interested. However, very nice guy.

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderThe way Bill was on any kind of wraps, suits, drugs, etc being wrong to use I’m surprised he has lifting after getting joints!
But seriously, when the day comes….and I’ve been told the hip I broke will need replaced eventually (assuming I don’t have a “catastrophic organ failure” of some type)…I will get it and be happy about it!
Good luck to Bill!

Highland Games athlete and sometimes All-RounderChad, you set yourself up on that one. Al already told me this story and showed me a PICTURE of YOU curling in your squat rack. It’s really sad you feel like you have to throw your ol’ buddy Al under the bus that way when the truth has already been told. I mean…really….do YOU have any photographic proof like Al does? I’ve already seen Al’s proof…where’s yours?
