I meant being one with the bar as confidence. I know I’m having it when stepping to the platform without lifting 95% week before or testing new PB in training. My experience of DL-MF is very long recovering after lifting 90% weights. I could lift it like three weeks before the meet and then continuing with 60-80% weights. Just to make sure I’ll be fresh on the day of meet and having skin on my fingers also 60-80% should be enough to keep the touch.
And yes 🙂 hopefully I’m clever as I let you know Dan.. ..I wish to open new DL-MF club in the future 😀February 8, 2017 at 12:32 pm in reply to: Story about never giving up.. ..wouldn't change even a day #27769Thanks Randy!
You’re welcome. Did you climb single pitch? or multi pitch routes? First one obviously requires some pulling strength.
Guys, your training approach seems very tough. Maybe I’m freak of nature.. ..but training my fingers very lightly last weeks before the meet. Being one with bar on the venue is the key.

I was showing the video for my 83 years old Dad and felt like he was proud of me.. ..good moments. It was back in late 80’s when we watched sport news and there was clip from Finnish Champs of Chin Up and the winner pulled 92,5kg. My Dad was asking “can you do that?” My answer “I will.”
Al, i know you do like tales.. ..and this is something to share with you 🙂

I think it’s better keep all-around weightlifting simple as doing lifts on the platform using barbells, dumbbells etc..
I can always try to set chin up records here in Finland under the chin up association.
I believe there is lot of tiny kids in Scotland dreaming about lifting Dinnies it’s tradition over there as underhand chin ups for Finns. I’ve been dreaming about exceeding 100kg mark since late 80’s and posting video of my biggest achievement means more than any official lift I’ve ever done.

So, after adjusting myself to +8 hours time zone. I would like thank Al, Laverne and Myers family for hosting this great meet. Okay, Kansas is far but worth of travelling for sure, i personally like countryside and US wasn’t exception. Great food and great atmosphere.

I wanted to see what happened in the lowering part because my index finger was sore after it and it’s still sore, i figured out after seeing that impact 🙂
Thanks Al!
We have once again african holiday from mid-july to mid august, which will be my biggest adventure so far. If everything will be okay afterwards, we’ll book tickets to US, my wife has EU passport these days.
I don’t know yet how’s my deadlift strength after the mountains (last year it was great) but fingers will be there 🙂 If it’s there i will try your Okie barbell for sure.
Anyway i’m satisfied after reaching my personal goal, years of work finally paid off, but still feeling there is things to do and after few years i’ll be senior class lifter.May 3, 2016 at 11:46 am in reply to: Decided to hit maximal deadlift, middle fingers in my training. #26882Thanks guys!!
Hopefully one day i can repeat this officially, everything needs to be there.. ..strength, mind, pleasant barbell etc.. ..one bonus is belt, i’ll wear it next time for sure 🙂 I wanted to hit my personal goal as raw deadlift, only lifter, chalk and barbell.
I just remember when Steve had told he’s going to leave hotel 7:25am, we supposed to follow him to the venue, but we’re one minute late!! as 7:26am 🙂 Al just told me and Art with all of his confidence “We’ve got navigator, we’ll get there”. So, we didn’t realize the fact it’s still possible to get lost, specially when not following navigator 🙂 Then somehow navigator was basically asking U-turn, but we didn’t care about it because Preston was getting closer without knowing the fact venue was in Accrington 🙂 Finally we pulled over to the countryside, stopped, called even Mr. Tomlin about our possible delay, and re-navigate. I would like to remember we arrived to the venue at 8:29am, we spent 1h 3min to get there (original route was 10 miles) but Art got himself to weigh-in, all good. Yes, it was an adventure 🙂

Your 183 was very, very impressive, Timo, and you were obviously good for more. You have incredibly strong fingers. Thanks Tom, i messed up my deadlift training, i didn’t have even 200kg regular DO beltless (wanted to have 220kg) in my store. With belt i would do 210kg, i was happy to get 183kg MFDL with my poor lower back 🙂 Hopefully i wil improve it, if not, at least i will be able to set good numbers for little fingers deadlift :)l
Hi guys and gals, had day off and time to talk and edit, including these two first choice of lifts from Gold Cup. I know here is many persons who couldn’t make it over seas, and as Al told me many USAWA lifters are interested about grip related lifts. Thanks to Big Frank for catching videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQojMtplsvw
Gonna be great to see/meet you all! Hopefully i will have chance to navigate with Al 🙂 We were dream-team of the freeways 🙂
A bit late.. ..but congrats!!
Thanks Al and Ruth,
perhaps workload with chins and technique with deadlift bar works, at least i hope so 🙂
