Right on then, I also wanted to mention that those aren’t the poundages I think I’m going to hit, lol.

I tried to convince a photographer friend to come with me and take tons of pictures of everyone and then put it on a CD like the guy did at Thom’s Highland Games back in October. Didn’t pan out but if anyone has a photog friend that would do that it’s always a nice touch. That way you can focus on preparing instead of taking photos. Although I like taking photos for the most part.

Excellent list! It’s really coming together. Glad to see that you’re signing up too Al!

Good luck guys! Look forward to reading all of the entries. I sent mine in a few days ago but we had a server crash here at work and then I found the e-mail waiting in my outbox last night when I started work:( Not a big deal of course, it wasn’t a “secret” really. Just a training tip on how to increase your numbers with Al’s Inch Dumbbell Handle Trainers.

Great group so far! We’re going to see some big pulls from some of these guys.

I wrote this up and put it on the Dragon Door kettlebell forum to see if I could drum up any interest from someone in the KS or MO area. So far no luck. But there are a half-dozen or so guys on that board that occasionally PM me with grip questions…so we’ll see.

the problem Ben is, people in general are pussies, lol. I hit some Vbars tonight, 205 each hand with the black painted, need to hit some more of these this week and next so that I dont get to embarrased. I think big Mark is going to do it also.

                  ST

Haha, the truth! Glad you and Mark are going to be competing. I thought all this time that Andrew Durniat was going to compete but just saw that he’s not going to make it.

Did 275lbs Wednesday afternoon on the Middle Fingers Deadlift. 42lb PR for me actually (3rd workout on this event so far), so I’m shooting for 300lbs at the contest. If my tendons hold up it’ll be a decent lift.

Ah yeah, I originally got on here to tell Al that I re-sent the entry and check for USAWA membership yesterday. This time I dropped it off at the post office to avoid any “issues” that might happen.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there! Anyone have a competitor list for the grip contest? I’m disappointed that more guys (and gals) can’t make it but I understand finances and other stuff like life.

Ben – I didn’t receive it yet. I assume the check was for USAWA membership (since the grip challenge doesn’t have an entry fee). I didn’t receive that either. Al

Dang, I was afraid of that. And yes, the check was for USAWA membership. I even posted info of the grip contest on the Gripboard but I haven’t seen any interest yet – which is pretty strange considering the entire board is dedicated to GRIP training…what is going on I wonder?

How much harder is the steel plan than the wooden one in your estimation? 195lbs is a stellar lift!

Congrats to everyone! Again, sorry I couldn’t be there because it sounds like I missed a heck of a time.

I’m enjoying the Saxon Plank that I won in the silent auction though! Lifted on it today and was even more impressed with the contest numbers – especially for the Saxon Snatch – when I realized how hard it is to snatch any significant weight on that beast.

Did the lifters use a similar Saxon Plank (wood or steel) to the one I got or did they have to use steel – which would be slicker I think unless it held chalk well?

I’ll train with it a few times a month because I like the feel of it. Did some pinch deadlifts with it too and was humbled by how little weight I could do on that too.

Thanks Thom and Al! I trust Thom of course (nanny cam) and will just e-mail him with the details of bidding.

Bad news. Found out last night that I have been mandatoried (overtime) for 8 hours that day and won’t be able to make it. I’m sorry guys and pretty bummed about it. I had made up my mind that it would be great to attend even if my numbers were going to be down a bit. Maybe I can still bid on some of the auction items – maybe through a proxy? Is that okay Al? Carrie wanted to drive down with me but she won’t now that I’m not able to go. But we want to support the great cause if possible. If the auction idea won’t work then we can just send a check directly to the charity instead if that works for Mark. Going to miss you guys. Hope everyone hits a bunch of PRs and has a great time!

P.S. Forgot to mention what items I’m interested in.

That’s really neat Al. Do you have a list (even partial) of what will be at the silent auction?

Ben, the Sumo DL is not against any rules of deadlfts in the USAWA, unless foot stance is specifically stated, ie heels together or 12″ base. All 3 deadlift events in the Grip Nationals (DL -3″bar, DL – middle fingers, and DL – FB, CG) all state in their rules “the rules of the deadlift apply”. In the rule of the deadlift, it clearly states that “width of feet placement is optional”. So – not a problem with sumo pulls, all of which are perfectly within the rules. Where did you ever get the idea that sumo pulls were illegal?? Al PS haha I think I know – I was there that day when you got this “misinformation”.

Thanks for the clarification! You’re right about where I got that info. I wasn’t trying to be a smart aleck with that question. On some of the other weight training forums I frequent the sumo deadlift is viewed as not even a real deadlift. So I figured I’d better make sure I wasn’t going to be surprised at the contest because I hadn’t checked the rulebook.
