The 28th Annual IAWA World All Round Weightlifting Championships

With 34 lifters representing: England, Scotland, USA, Ireland, Wales and Finland, completing 7 disciplines over the two days, it certainly made for a very busy weekend. The lifting ran through very smooth, and it was great to see that all of the lifters were engaged in loading and spotting and refereeing when they weren’t lifting, many hands make light work and the enthusiasm produced in the room was just electric. We were treated to excellent lifting across the board, with bags full of records (and some great records too) being broken. It was great to see eight female competitors taking part, and a great mix of Open Division, Juniors and Masters as well. Once again several new lifters were on the platform, and all showed great promise for the future. Well done to David McFadzean and his support team at Castlemilk for promoting a great event. It was really nice that the youngest Competitor: Liam Keddy celebrated his 14th Birthday on the first day of competition, and the oldest: Art Montini celebrated his 88th Birthday on the second day too, thanks to Janet Dick, Judy Habecker and Karen Gardner for arranging the cake, it was a great surprise for Art. Well done to all lifters but especially to the Overall Champion: Mark Haydock who received the new IAWA Championship Belt that had been supplied by members of David’s family to be used as a perpetual Award at the World Championships. Fitting that Mark finished the day with a huge 300 kilos Straddle Deadlift! This was without a doubt another fantastic event in IAWA World Championships History….

A year sure goes by fast!  The IAWA World Championships are this weekend in Glasgow, Scotland.  This is the HIGHLIGHT event in the IAWA every year. Here are some updates that everyone should be aware of:

This great event is almost upon us and the athletes officials organisers will all be making final preparations….

Some Reminders:…
The World Council Meeting is at 7pm on Friday 9th October at the Castlemilk Centre.

The lifting Venue is: Castlemilk Community Centre – 121 Castlemilk Drive, Glasgow, Scotland G45 9UG Tel: 0141 634 2233.

The Weigh in Both Days is at 9am – Lifting both days starts at 10am..

The Banquet is on Sunday 11th October following the lifting: 7.30pm Sit Down at: St Andrew’s in the Square, 1 St Andrews Square, Calton, Glasgow, G1 5PP.

Its going to be a great event, two Platforms running, two flights of lifters….when you weigh in check your flight and group, all lifters (almost to the man and woman) will be helping out in the group they are not lifting in as Referees or Loaders…this is the beauty of the organisation EVERYONE pitches in to help the event flourish… dont forget when you get there check the schedule for your designated duties and lifting groups… Have a good one everyone…ITS GOING TO BE GREAT!!!!

2014 IAWA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

There are many attractions in Boston and the surrounding area to fill several days of enjoyable sight seeing.

It’s exciting to be able to announce the 2014 IAWA World Championships – to be held September 27-28th in Norwood, MA.  Longtime meet promoter Frank Ciavattone Jr. will be the meet director.   Frank is a well-organized and seasoned promoter and has many things planned for the event. Frank is the type of  meet director that thinks of the lifters first and foremost.  You will NOT be disappointed.  It will be an epic weekend!

MEET ANNOUNCEMENT
2013 IAWA World Championships

Mark and I enjoying some "beach time" on Scarborough Beach near Perth, Western Australia, while there for the 2011 IAWA World Championships.

The entry form and meet details have been released for the 2013 IAWA World Championships.  Mark Haydock, of Preston, England, will be this year’s meet director and host.  Mark runs an all round club, the Houghton Barbell Club. Mark has been very involved in IAWA and has attended many World Championships.   He was the Overall Best Lifter in the 2009 Championship in Lebanon, PA.

All it takes for a USAWA member to enter the IAWA World Championships is to be a USAWA current member.  There are NO pre-meet qualifications to enter. Just fill out the entry form completely and send it to Mark, then book your flight to England.  That’s it! The entry deadline is August 31st.

The meet is a two day meet (Saturday October 5th & Sunday October 6th).   In the Info Sheet Mark has given several suggestions for places to stay.  The lifts for the World Championships are:

Worlds – ONE WEEK AWAY!

The 2012 IAWA World Championships is ONE WEEK AWAY!   Chad and I are in the final stages of having everything ready – just the “small stuff” now to take care of.  The list of registered competitors is set.  This is the 25 lifters who are entered:

Yesterday I went to pick up the awards and t-shirts from the “trophy shop”.   I think everyone will be very pleased with both!  The trophies are as nice as I’ve ever received in a competition, as they should be since this is a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.  I want to emphasize that every weight class within age groupings will be represented.  After all, this is the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!   I plan to award certificates for the Best Lifter awards.  I also made up something “special” for all competitors.  I don’t want to reveal what this is yet, so it will be a surprise.  But it is something that you will keep and cherish as it represents the 25th Anniversary of the International All-Round Weightlifting Association.

As stated on the entry forms, this Championship will be held at the Dino Strength Training Center in Salina, Kansas.  The address is 742 Duvall Avenue. It is easy to find.  There is plenty of parking at the gym.  The General IAWA World Meeting will be held Friday night at 7:30 in the gym for those wanting to attend.  I will be in the gym most of Friday afternoon doing the final meet setup so if you get in town early please stop by (but if you do I will probably get you to help with the setup!).  IAWA President Steve Gardner will organize and preside over the meeting.

Weighins will be from 8-9 AM on Saturday.   This first-day weighin determines your weight class for the entire weekend.  You must also weigh in Sunday morning if you want to be eligible to set records on Sunday.  If you are not interested in this, you do not need to weigh in on Sunday.  At 9 Am we will have the opening ceremony and lifter introductions.  Immediately following this the meet will start.  The meet will be ran in a 2-session 1-platform format.  The two sessions will be divided this way – women and older men in first session, and younger men in the second session.  Sunday’s lifting will follow the exact way.   Also, since this is an IAWA event IAWA Rules and Scoring will be used.  The IAWA official scorekeeper Chris Bass from England will be in attendance to do the scoring.  IAWA President Steve Gardner will do the announcing. 

Immediately following Sundays lifting, we will have the award ceremony.   After that for anyone interested, we will have a post-meet celebration at my place.  I am calling it that instead of a banquet because this will be an informal affair.  Dress casually and show up ready to have an enjoyable evening.  This will be a good ole fashioned Kansas backyard BBQ, complete with “all-you-can-eat” barbecued meats, potato salad, baked beans and homemade ice cream!!  Refreshments will be there as well, but if you have something special you like to drink I would recommend that you bring it along.  I will have plenty of chairs and tables to sit back and relax, and hopefully will have a nice cool October night as well!  This BBQ is included as part of the “package entry fee” for all lifters, and for anyone else that is attending there will be a donation jar.  I highly recommend that anyone who can attend this evening event to make it, as it will give a time to meet new friends (or catch up with old friends) from overseas.  I will have directions available to my place at the meet for anyone who wants them.
